    • Ultrapro Hernia System (UHS)

The ULTRAPRO Hernia System (UHS) is a partially absorbable device used to reinforce or bridge abdominal wall hernia defects by providing permanent support of the abdominal wall during and following wound healing.

    • Ultrapo Mesh

The ULTRAPRO Mesh is lightweight, yet strong, flexible and comfortable. It has been reported that the UHS decrease recurrence of hernias rate to less than 0.1% compared to other mesh and techniques which has reported recurrence rates of about 1%. There are the benefits of the ULTRAPO Mesh technology:

      • Incorporates the three key elements of a lightweight mesh (thin filaments, large pore size, and absorbable components)
      • Leaves less foreign body over time
      • Provides physiological compatibility with the abdominal wall
    • Laparoscopic (keyhole) hernia surgery

This particular of surgery only needs a small incision to help the surgeon see and repair the hernia. A specialised hernia mesh is then used to patch the wall defect – keeping the tear closed and supporting the muscle throughout the healing.

    • Open Surgery

If keyhole surgery is not possible, open surgery is required, and an incision is made to reach the protrusion and coax it back in place. The hernia defect is then repaired and a mesh is fixed to reinforce the repair. Recovery is usually slightly longer and during this recovery period for both techniques of surgery the patient should not over-exert or do anything to destroy the repair.

    FAQ

    • What is Hernia?

The abdominal wall is a sheet of muscle to stop the organs of the abdomen (the intestines) from falling out. When a weakness or tear occurs in this muscle, part of the intestine bulges through and appears as a lump under the skin. In the past, hernias were often called ruptures. They are most common in the groin (inguinal hernias).

    • What are the Symptoms of Hernia?

When a hernia first occurs you may have a feeling that something has given way and may experience a little pain. This soon wears off. Later, a lump appears. This doesn't hurt and may get bigger when you cough. Although in most cases hernias just cause discomfort and are a bit of a nuisance, the real worry is that they will strangulate. This means they get stuck and their blood supply is cut off, which requires an emergency operation.

    • What are the Causes of Hernia?

Anything that raises the pressure within the abdomen, such as heavy lifting (for example, weights or building materials), coughing, even straining on the toilet, can cause a weakness or tear in the abdominal wall. In addition, vigorous exercise often results in hernias. Sometimes, the weaknesses is already present from birth around the umbilicus (umbilical hernia) in children or under the scar of an operation (incisional hernia).

    • Can hernia recur?

Yes, it can, at the original hernia site as well as at any other abdominal areas where the muscle wall is weak. The Hernia surgical mesh implants, however, greatly reduce the chances of recurrence, as modern materials have very few side effects and can be safely used to strengthen the area permanently.

    • Can it be prevented?

While there is no surefire way of preventing hernias, there are a few things that you can do to lower your risk of developing a hernia:

      • If you are overweight, follow your doctor’s advice on losing weight through dieting and exercise. Avoid starving yourself or crash dieting as overly rapid weight loss has also been correlated with hernia development.
      • Avoid lifting, pulling, and pushing heavy objects. Use proper techniques when needed. Bend at your knees and lift using your legs rather than your back.
      • Avoid constipation and straining during bowel movements and urination. Straining causes increased pressure inside the abdomen. Eat foods that are high in fibre, and drink plenty of fluids.
    • What are your charges

Our charges for first consultation starts from $200 and our clinic accepts most insurances. In addition, our staff will provide financial counselling for any procedure to be performed.

    • Can I walk in for an appointment or service?
